Ferry Meadows, Sunday 2nd August
The weekend started for Diane and I on Saturday 1st August. We planned to camp overnight to gain the atmosphere of the start of the event. We arrived at 3pm hoping to get onto our pitch and set up early.
The Cambridge and Oxford Owners Club were still setting out their pitches so we were not allowed on to the site until 4pm. We had an hour wait with others who came early but it did get us talking to each other, something we probably would not have done had it been for the wait. We met Fiona and her mum Alison, who were there helping the organisers.
We soon had the Mini off the trailer, the trailer parked with the camper and the tent put up. A quick cup of tea was the next order of the day, it was then over to the organisers area for tea. This marked the end of the day and bed.
Sunday started bright as it always does for this event. Martyn arrived at about 9.30am followed by Rob and Jane. We were finally joined by Fiona. We had two guests, Richard Mortlock from the Bury Mini Club with his very nice Woody and a Gentleman whose name eludes me with two very special vehicles, one was a Microdot which is a hybrid from 1976 and a Minissima, both designed by William Towns.
It stayed warm all day and was ideal for walking and taking in the exhibits. We packed up after the rafle and prize giving and went home after a thoroughly satisfying day.
